What you are buying when you buy AEO
SEO gets a page ranked. AEO gets a page quoted. When someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews a question, the assistant assembles an answer from a handful of sources and names them. An AEO service exists to make your pages the ones it reaches for.
That changes the shape of the work. A ranking page can be long and meandering; a cited page has to contain a sentence an assistant can lift without editing. It has to answer the question as asked, in the first paragraph, with a fact the assistant can attribute to you. And it has to be reachable by the crawlers those assistants run, which is a technical check most SEO audits skip.
So the honest scope of answer engine optimization services is narrow: find the questions your buyers ask, publish a page that answers each one directly and quotably, mark the answers up so machines can parse them, and measure whether anything cites you. Everything else a vendor adds is either ordinary SEO under a new label or padding. The parent guide to answer engine optimization covers the discipline; this page covers buying it.
Answer engine optimization (AEO) is the practice of structuring a page so an AI assistant can quote it as the answer to a specific question and attribute that answer to your site.
The deliverables to insist on
Whoever you hire, the output should be inspectable. Ask for these by name:
- A question inventory. The real questions your buyers ask, pulled from Search Console queries, People Also Ask boxes and keyword data, not brainstormed in a workshop.
- One page per question, answer first. The opening paragraph answers the question in plain terms; the rest of the page earns the right to be believed.
- A quotable definition on every page. One or two sentences that stand alone when lifted out of context.
- FAQ blocks with FAQPage JSON-LD. Follow-up questions answered in a short paragraph each, marked up so the answers are machine-readable.
- Crawler access. Confirmation that GPTBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended can fetch the pages, plus an llms.txt if you want one.
- First-party facts. Numbers and specifics from your own product data, datasheets or support history that no competitor's page can carry.
- A citation report. Which questions were put to which assistant, and whether your site was named.
If a proposal lists "AEO strategy" and "AI readiness" without any of these nouns attached, you are being sold a retainer, not a result. Every item above is a file, a page or a report you can open and check.
Three ways the market charges
Answer engine optimization services are sold three ways, and the billing model tells you what you are really paying for.
Agency retainer. A monthly fee buys a team's time: an audit, a content plan, a fixed number of new or rewritten pages, and a report. You pay whether or not the pages get cited, and output is capped at what people can write and review in a month. Good agencies bring judgement, and you pay for it by the hour.
Software subscription. A monthly licence to a tool that drafts or scores content. Cheaper per page, but briefing, editing, publishing and measuring stay with you, and the bill is the same whether you publish one page or fifty.
Per published article. You pay for finished pages that go live, and nothing for drafts that fail review. That is IT Master's model: a prepaid balance, no subscription, four quality tiers, and a price per published article set out on the pricing page.
None of these is wrong. A retainer suits a business that needs strategy more than pages. Software suits a team with writers and time. Per-article suits anyone who wants checked, published pages at a steady cadence without hiring for it.
Answer engine optimization services are sold three ways: a monthly agency retainer for a team's time, a software subscription for a tool you drive yourself, or a fee per published article. The billing model states what the vendor is accountable for.
How IT Master does the work
Each article runs through one pipeline, with the AEO deliverables built in rather than bolted on.
Discovery pulls real demand from DataForSEO and your Search Console, so every topic starts as a question someone typed. Research reads the competing pages, your first-party data (product records, datasheets, support Q&A) and relevant forum threads, then finds what the competitors left out.
A Claude model writes a question-led article: the direct answer in the opening, a quotable definition, sections that follow the buyer's follow-up questions, and an FAQ block. The draft then enters a validation gauntlet: a fact-check and a novelty score against the competitors by Gemini and GPT judges, plus an E-E-A-T critique and AI-tell detection, none of it by the model that wrote the draft, with up to three revision rounds. Across 186 Standard-tier runs, 51% of drafts passed every check first time; the rest were revised or rejected. Pro-tier judges are stricter: 25% first-pass, across a small sample of 16 runs.
A passing article publishes to your site with JSON-LD schema including the FAQ, internal links into your existing pages, a hero image and an IndexNow ping to the search engines. The full sequence is on the how it works page.
Measuring citations, not just rankings
The point of AEO is to be named as a source, so the measurement has to ask the assistants directly. Every night IT Master puts a fixed set of your buyers' questions to GPT and Perplexity and records whether your site is cited, alongside the Search Console clicks and impressions for the same pages. Having both numbers is how you tell a page that ranks from a page that gets quoted.
The same nightly loop watches for decay. When a page's impressions slide or its facts go stale, it is queued for a refresh rather than left to sink.
Two things this measurement will not do. It will not promise a citation: assistants change their sources week to week, and any vendor who promises you placement is guessing. And a week of data is noise; judge the trend over a quarter.
You can run a version of these checks yourself first. The AI visibility checker puts buyer questions to the assistants and shows whether your pages appear as sources, the AEO checker scores any URL on nine deterministic checks, and the AI crawler check reads your robots.txt to show which assistant crawlers you allow or block.
Delivery, and where it already runs
Nothing here requires a new CMS. On WordPress, install the plugin, paste one key, and articles arrive as posts with the Yoast or Rank Math fields filled. On Next.js, @itmaster/sdk renders the feed. Anything else can consume the REST pull feed or receive a signed push webhook at any endpoint. Shopify and Webflow we set up for you on request; Wix and Squarespace get a copy-and-paste queue.
The engine runs today on cctvline.co.uk and cctvmaster.co.uk (UK CCTV trade and retail), eurocctv.co.uk (UK CCTV trade) and 1xai.ir (AI developer tools, in Persian). Each is grounded in whatever first-party data that site holds: product records, datasheets, support questions. Editorial responsibility sits with Editor-in-Chief Rodd Azad, a software engineer and the founder of IT Master and code-nest.dev.

questions people ask
What do answer engine optimization services include?
A credible AEO service delivers a question inventory drawn from real search data, one page per question with the answer in the opening paragraph, a quotable definition on each page, FAQ blocks marked up with FAQPage JSON-LD, confirmation that AI crawlers can reach the pages, first-party facts the competition cannot copy, and a report showing which assistants cited the site. If a proposal cannot name those deliverables, it is selling time rather than results.
How much do AEO services cost?
It depends on the billing model. Agencies charge a monthly retainer for a team's time and a fixed number of pages. Software vendors charge a monthly licence and leave the writing, publishing and measuring to you. IT Master charges per published article from a prepaid balance, with no subscription, and a draft that fails its checks is not charged at the full rate. Current per-article prices, by quality tier, are on the pricing page.
How is AEO different from ordinary SEO?
SEO aims to rank a page in a list of ten blue links. AEO aims to have an AI assistant quote the page as its answer and name the site as the source. The two overlap, since assistants draw on pages search engines have indexed, but AEO adds requirements SEO does not: an answer-first structure, sentences that survive being lifted out of context, machine-readable FAQ markup, and access for the assistants' own crawlers. A page can rank well and never be cited.
How long before an AI assistant cites my site?
Nobody can promise a date, and a vendor who promises one is guessing. A new page first has to be indexed, which is why IT Master pings IndexNow on publish, and then assistants have to prefer it over the sources they already use. IT Master measures citations from GPT and Perplexity nightly and reports them alongside Search Console data, so you watch the trend rather than wait for a promise. Judge results over a quarter, not a week.
Can I keep my existing SEO agency and still use IT Master?
Yes. The engine produces published, checked articles; it does not replace the strategy, technical audits or link work an agency may already handle. A team can keep the agency for judgement and use a per-article engine for the steady volume of question-led pages that otherwise never gets written. Articles arrive through the WordPress plugin, the Next.js SDK, a REST feed or a signed webhook, so the agency reviews them in the CMS it already uses.
Which AI engines do you measure citations from?
IT Master's nightly loop measures citations from GPT and Perplexity, and it pulls clicks and impressions from Google Search Console for the same pages. Having both lets you separate a page that ranks from a page that gets quoted. Before buying anything, you can run the free AI visibility checker and the AEO checker on your own pages to see how they score against the same deliverables.
