Koala AI vs IT Master: a toolkit you drive or a checked pipeline
Koala AI is a subscription toolkit you drive: pick the keyword, pick the model, read the draft. IT Master runs the same loop unattended and has a rival vendor's models check every article before it publishes. The mechanisms, side by side.

Koala AI — Koala AI titles its homepage "The AI Growth Platform for Google & AI Search": one subscription covering Brand DNA, KoalaWriter v2, KoalaChat, KoalaImages, KoalaLinks and KoalaMagnets, with articles written from live SERP research and published to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Ghost or a webhook. Its site also publishes "67+ free AI tools" outside the paywall. (their public pages, checked 2026-09-02)
| Dimension | Koala AI | IT Master |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Homepage title: "The AI Growth Platform for Google & AI Search"; the page itself opens "Rank on Google. Get cited by AI." Six products sit in one subscription: Brand DNA, KoalaWriter v2, KoalaChat, KoalaImages, KoalaLinks, KoalaMagnets. Four steps: "Import your business", "Review your knowledge base", "Get the SEO data built in", "Grow with AI that knows you". Published traction: "20,000+ paid creators", "4M+ articles generated". | An autonomous pipeline: discovery, research, writing, a cross-vendor validation gauntlet, then auto-publish of the articles that pass. Post-hoc controls: takedown, pause, brief changes. |
| Topic discovery | You supply the keyword or title. Brand DNA connects "Google Search Console and Analytics", shows "trends, top queries, striking-distance keywords, and channels", and keeps "persistent memory of your business". Its access is metered: "No message cap on Boost plans and above. Professional includes a 25-message monthly preview." | Topics are discovered from real search demand (DataForSEO plus the site's own Search Console) and queued without a person choosing each one. |
| Research sources | Deep Research is "Live SERP research with up to 10 sources scraped per article, each feeding real source content into the writing prompt." In the API, realTimeData is a boolean, realTimeDataSource takes "web, scholarly, news, custom", and realTimeDateRange narrows news by period. Brand DNA's knowledge base holds "services, credentials, USPs, and key differentiators", imported "from Google Maps or your website". | Top-ranking competitor pages, forum threads, and the customer's own first-party data (product data, datasheets, support Q&A) where it exists. |
| Writing models | "Frontier models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google", chosen per article. The API's gptVersion lists gpt-5.6-luna (default), gpt-5.6-terra, claude-sonnet-5, claude-opus-5 and claude-4.5-sonnet. Plan word counts assume Luna: "GPT-5.6 Terra and Claude Sonnet 5 count words at 2x, and GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude Opus 5 count at 3x." | Claude models write. Four tiers, Lite to Premium, set the writer and how strict the judges are; the engine picks the model. |
| Quality control before publish | Inputs and finish rather than verification: Deep Research, an seoOptimizationLevel of "default", "manual" or "ai_powered", Brand Voice, a Polish step that "improves readability and engagement", and shouldCiteSources for source links. A fact-check run after writing, a novelty score against competitors, or a review by a second model: not published on the pages we read. | Judges from a different vendor than the writer (Gemini, GPT) run fact-check, novelty vs competitors, E-E-A-T critique and AI-tell detection; up to 3 revision rounds; a draft that never passes is not published. |
| Publishing and delivery | WordPress by application password: "Setting up the WordPress integration is straightforward and requires no plugin installation", and it "preserves all your content structure, including headings, lists, tables, and custom formatting" across client sites. Shopify, Webflow, Ghost, a webhook and API access are listed. The API's integrationId will "automatically create a draft". Yoast or Rank Math field filling, and IndexNow: not published. | WordPress plugin (one key; Yoast/Rank Math fields filled), @itmaster/sdk for Next.js, a REST pull feed, or a signed push webhook. Shopify/Webflow set up on request; Wix/Squarespace get a copy-paste queue. IndexNow pings on publish. |
| Internal linking and schema | Both, but as separate machinery. KoalaWriter takes an internalLinkingDomainId for links inside a draft. KoalaLinks is the site-wide product: "Thousands of contextual internal links in one click, with schema markup", plus an Autopilot mode; the homepage claims "25M+ internal links placed", and Professional covers "internal linking for up to 50 sites". Schema is its own tooling: entity schema markup, and "URL-pattern-matched schema rules". | Internal links are chosen at write time from the site's own published articles and written into the HTML, alongside JSON-LD and FAQ schema in every article. |
| Images | KoalaImages: "Upload up to 5 reference images and generate new images matching the style, composition, or subject", custom styles, automatic YouTube embedding, and a bulk queue of "up to 100 image prompts at once". Homepage claim: "10M+ images created". | One hero image per article, generated inside the pipeline and delivered with the post. |
| AI-search visibility | Brand DNA has an "AI Search Focus" mode to "Optimize for ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overview citations", and its dashboard reads real Search Console and Analytics data. A measured citation rate across assistants, or automatic refresh of decaying pages: not published. | A nightly loop measures Search Console and AI-assistant citations (GPT, Perplexity) and refreshes decaying articles through the same checks as new ones. |
| Pricing model | Subscription metered in words and credits: Essentials $9/mo (15,000 words, 250 credits), Professional $49 (100,000 / 1,000), Boost $99 (250,000 / 2,500), Growth $179 (500,000), Elite $350 (1,000,000), Advanced $500 (1,500,000), Scale I $750 (2,500,000), Scale II $1,250 (5,000,000), Scale III $2,000 (10,000,000). "Save 20% with annual billing". Word counts assume the default model. source: koala.sh/pricing | Pay per published article from a prepaid balance. No subscription. A draft that fails the checks is not charged at the full rate. See /pricing. |
| Free tier and free tools | "Every new account gets 5,000 free words and 25 credits, no credit card required." Refunds: under 15,000 words and 100 credits, "contact us within 15 days for a prompt refund". koala.sh/tools offers "67+ free AI tools for content creation, SEO, email marketing, and more. No signup required to try." An "Analyze My Site" tool on the homepage promises three article ideas in "About 20 seconds. No account needed." | Four free diagnostics, no account needed: /check, the AI Visibility Checker, the AEO Checker and the AI Crawler Check. They inspect a site; they do not write copy. |
- You want to steer each article yourself, choosing the model per piece from OpenAI, Anthropic or Google and editing the outline before anything ships.
- You want more than articles from one subscription: a chat assistant that takes file attachments, an image generator, embedded custom GPTs and email capture on them.
- You need to retro-fit internal links across an existing site: KoalaLinks advertises thousands of contextual links in one click, with an autopilot mode.
- You publish Amazon affiliate roundups, local places roundups or product reviews, which are dedicated article types in KoalaWriter with their own API parameters.
- You use one-off copy generators often, and a library of 67+ free tools with no signup is worth real money to your team.
- A predictable word allowance at a flat monthly price fits your budgeting better than per-article billing, and you have an editor to review drafts.
- You want topics found, researched, written, checked and published with no editor session per article.
- You want a model from a different vendor than the writer to fact-check the draft and score its novelty against the competitors, and to reject the weak ones.
- Your business holds first-party data (product data, datasheets, support Q&A) that should be the substance of the article, not a paraphrase of page one.
- You would rather pay for what publishes than for words generated, including the drafts you throw away.
- Your site runs on Next.js or a custom stack and you want an SDK, a pull feed or a signed webhook rather than a CMS connection.
- You want decaying pages refreshed nightly, and AI-assistant citations measured rather than assumed.
What Koala AI is, in its own words
Koala AI (koala.sh) titles its homepage "The AI Growth Platform for Google & AI Search" and heads the page "Rank on Google. Get cited by AI." One subscription covers six products: Brand DNA, described as an "AI SEO strategist with real GSC + GA data and persistent memory of your business"; KoalaWriter v2, the article generator; KoalaChat; KoalaImages; KoalaLinks, for site-wide internal linking; and KoalaMagnets, custom GPTs you embed on your own site. The four steps it sets out are import your business, review your knowledge base, get the SEO data built in, and grow with AI that knows you. It publishes its own traction figures there, including "20,000+ paid creators" and "4M+ articles generated".
KoalaWriter is the part buyers weigh against IT Master. You give it a keyword or title, choose a model and an article type, then switch on what you want: real-time data, Deep Research, SEO optimisation, images, YouTube embeds, internal links from a connected domain. The result goes to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Ghost or a webhook.
Everything in the table above was read from koala.sh on 2 September 2026. Where a page did not say, the cell says "not published".
Koala AI sells a well-equipped writing desk. IT Master sells the checked, published page.
A toolkit you drive versus an engine that publishes
The two products start and stop at different points. With Koala AI you pick the topic, set the switches, read the draft and decide what goes live. Bulk content creation generates multiple articles at once under one set of settings, the API's integrationId will "automatically create a draft" in a connected site, and Brand DNA's content calendar autopilot "writes, schedules, and publishes through your connected integrations" once you approve a monthly plan.
IT Master begins one step earlier and ends one step later. It finds the topic from real search demand, researches competitor pages, forums and your own first-party data, writes the article, then hands the draft to judges that did not write it. Only a passing article publishes, and it arrives with JSON-LD, internal links, a hero image and an FAQ already in place, followed by an IndexNow ping.
So the real question is who owns the review step. With Koala AI it is you, or the monthly plan you approved. With IT Master it is a panel of rival-vendor models, and your controls move after publication: takedown, pause, or a change to the brief. How it works walks through each stage.
Who checks the draft
Koala's published quality features concern inputs and finish. Deep Research is "live SERP research with up to 10 sources scraped per article". The API exposes an seoOptimizationLevel of "default", "manual" or "ai_powered", and a shouldCiteSources switch for source links. Brand Voice and Polish shape how the prose reads. We read the homepage, pricing, features, Brand DNA, WordPress integration, free tools and KoalaWriter API pages on 2 September 2026 and found no description of a fact-check after writing, a novelty score against competitors, or a second model reviewing the first model's work. In that design, the reviewer is you.
IT Master replaces the reviewer with models from a different vendor than the writer. Claude writes; Gemini and GPT judge. Four checks run: fact-check, novelty against the scraped competitor pages, an E-E-A-T critique and AI-tell detection. A failure returns to the writer with specific fixes, up to three rounds, and a draft that still fails is not published.
The numbers are ours and they are not flattering. Across 186 Standard-tier runs, 51% of drafts passed every check first time; the rest were revised or rejected. Pro-tier judges are stricter: 25% first-pass, across a small sample of 16 runs. See cross-model validation.
The model that writes is never the model that checks.
What the article is grounded in
Both tools read the results page. Koala scrapes up to ten sources per article, can point real-time data at scholarly work, news or a custom search, and lets Brand DNA hold your services, credentials, USPs and key differentiators so they stop being retyped. That is a sound way to match the shape of what already ranks, and for a local service business, a knowledge base imported from Google Maps or your own site does real work.
IT Master treats the SERP as the floor. After scraping competitors and forum threads, it queries the customer's own first-party data: product catalogues, supplier datasheets, the questions support actually answered. Where that data exists it becomes the substance of the article, which is what the novelty judge rewards and what a rival cannot copy from page one. On the live CCTV tenants (cctvline.co.uk, cctvmaster.co.uk, eurocctv.co.uk) that means real specifications and real installer questions.
If a business holds no first-party data the gap narrows, and both tools write from public sources. The difference then reverts to who checks the draft. See first-party data and the security and CCTV page.
Publishing, linking and schema
Koala connects to WordPress with an application password and says setup "requires no plugin installation", preserving headings, lists, tables and custom formatting, across as many client sites as you connect. Shopify, Webflow, Ghost, a webhook and API access are listed alongside it. Linking works at two levels: KoalaWriter can place links from a connected domain inside a draft, while KoalaLinks handles the whole site in one click, with schema markup and an autopilot mode. Entity schema markup and URL-pattern schema rules are their own tools. Yoast or Rank Math field filling and IndexNow are not described on the pages we read.
IT Master ships the finished page rather than an editor. The WordPress plugin takes one key and fills Yoast or Rank Math fields; @itmaster/sdk serves Next.js sites; a REST pull feed and a signed push webhook cover anything else. Shopify and Webflow are set up by us on request, and Wix or Squarespace get a copy-paste queue. Schema, internal links, hero image and FAQ are written into the article itself, and IndexNow is pinged on publish.
Pricing: words generated versus articles published
Koala is a subscription metered in words and credits. On 2 September 2026 its pricing page listed Essentials at $9 a month for 15,000 words and 250 credits, Professional at $49 for 100,000 words, Boost at $99 for 250,000, Growth at $179 for 500,000, Elite at $350 for a million, Advanced at $500 for 1.5 million, and Scale I to III at $750, $1,250 and $2,000 for 2.5, 5 and 10 million. Annual billing saves 20%. Those allowances assume the default model: Terra and Claude Sonnet 5 count words at twice the rate, Sol and Claude Opus 5 at three times. New accounts get "5,000 free words and 25 credits, no credit card required", refundable within 15 days below 15,000 words and 100 credits.
IT Master has no subscription. You top up a prepaid balance and pay per published article, and a draft that fails the gauntlet is not charged at the full rate.
The shape matters more than the numbers. A word meter charges for every attempt, including the ones you delete; a per-article price charges when something reaches your site. Rates are on pricing, and the free site check runs before you spend anything.
The free tools, compared
Koala's free library is unusually large for this category: koala.sh/tools advertises "67+ free AI tools for content creation, SEO, email marketing, and more. No signup required to try." The listing groups them into content creation, SEO, email marketing, advertising, PR, recruiting, sales, social media, video and utilities. An "Analyze My Site" tool on the homepage promises three articles your site should publish next, in "About 20 seconds. No account needed." If your team writes a lot of short copy, that library is worth using whichever engine you buy.
IT Master's free tools point the other way. They diagnose rather than generate. The site check audits a site before you spend anything. The AI Visibility Checker looks at how assistants treat your brand. The AEO Checker scores a page for answer-engine readiness, and the AI Crawler Check tests whether AI crawlers can reach your pages at all.
None of ours writes a word. They settle where a site stands, which is the question to answer before choosing either product.
questions people ask
Does Koala AI fact-check the articles it writes?
Not in any way its public pages describe. We read the Koala homepage, pricing, features, Brand DNA, WordPress integration, free tools and KoalaWriter API pages on 2 September 2026. They document live SERP research with up to ten sources scraped per article, an SEO optimisation level, a source-citation switch, Brand Voice and a Polish step for readability. None of those is a check run after writing by a different model. IT Master runs a fact-check on every draft using a Gemini or GPT judge, never the Claude model that wrote it, alongside novelty, E-E-A-T and AI-tell checks, and a draft that keeps failing is not published.
How does Koala AI pricing compare with IT Master?
The shapes differ. Koala sells a subscription metered in words and credits: on 2 September 2026 its pricing page listed Essentials at $9 a month for 15,000 words, Professional at $49 for 100,000, Boost at $99 for 250,000, and tiers up to Scale III at $2,000 for ten million, with 20% off annual billing and 5,000 free words on signup. Words you generate and discard still count, and the allowances assume the default model, with premium ones counting double or triple. IT Master charges per published article from a prepaid balance with no subscription, and a failed draft is not charged at the full rate. See our pricing page.
Which AI models does Koala AI use?
Koala advertises "frontier models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google" and lets you choose one per article. Its KoalaWriter API documentation lists gpt-5.6-luna as the default, with gpt-5.6-terra, claude-sonnet-5, claude-opus-5 and claude-4.5-sonnet as alternatives, and its pricing page notes that Terra and Claude Sonnet 5 count words at twice the rate while Sol and Claude Opus 5 count at three times. IT Master splits the roles instead: Claude models write across four tiers, while Gemini and GPT models judge, so the writer is never its own reviewer.
Does Koala AI publish to a site automatically?
It can. The KoalaWriter API takes an integration ID for a connected site and will "automatically create a draft" there, and Brand DNA's content calendar autopilot writes, schedules and publishes through connected integrations once you approve a monthly plan. WordPress connects by application password with no plugin, and Shopify, Webflow, Ghost and webhooks are supported. IT Master publishes automatically as the default behaviour, but only for articles that clear the validation gauntlet; your controls sit after publication as takedown, pause or a change to the brief.
Are Koala AI's free tools worth using?
Yes, on their own terms. The koala.sh/tools page advertises "67+ free AI tools" with no signup required to try, grouped into content creation, SEO, email marketing, advertising, PR, recruiting, sales, social media, video and utilities. They solve short copy tasks quickly. They are not a content programme, because nothing connects them to your search demand, your data or your site. IT Master's free tools do the opposite job: they diagnose a site's search and AI visibility rather than produce copy, and you can run them without an account.
Can I run Koala AI and IT Master on the same site?
Yes. Both deliver into WordPress and both can post to a webhook, so nothing technical stops you using Koala for hand-steered pieces such as affiliate roundups while IT Master handles grounded, validated articles without an editor session. Two rules keep it clean. Split the topics so the two tools never write competing pages for the same keyword, and let one system own internal linking, otherwise anchors and targets drift apart. Watch the word meter too: drafts you discard in Koala still consume the allowance.
